Islamabad: Pakistan and Malaysia have announced a collaborative effort to enhance rice exports and strengthen halal certification standards, following a series of high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur. Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research Amer Ali Ahmed, Federal Secretary for Commerce Jawad Paul, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Syed Ahsan Raza Shah led the Pakistani delegation in discussions with Malaysian officials to bolster bilateral cooperation in food security and trade.

According to Press Information Department, the delegation met with the Group CEO of BERNAS to discuss expanding Pakistani rice exports, emphasizing compliance with Malaysian quality standards. The talks also highlighted Pakistan’s involvement in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase and the shared commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and regional food security.

In discussions with Dato’ Dr. Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee, Director General of JAKIM, the focus was on strengthening cooperation in agriculture and the halal-certified sector. The meeting reviewed the progress of a Memorandum of Understanding between JAKIM and the Pakistan Halal Authority, highlighting the need for robust certification mechanisms and deeper economic ties.

The Pakistani delegation also engaged with Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to advance cooperation in the halal agri-food sector. Both sides agreed to establish a formal mechanism for continued engagement, starting with a joint virtual meeting in November.

These engagements underscore the commitment of Pakistan and Malaysia to promoting safe, quality, and halal-certified food products through stronger agricultural partnerships and expanded bilateral trade.
