Pakistan and Malaysia Discuss Expanding Bilateral Trade, Focus on Halal Meat Exports


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with Malaysian Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, focusing on strengthening trade relations between Pakistan and Malaysia. The meeting, held in Islamabad, highlighted the potential for expanding economic cooperation, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and halal meat exports.



According to Press Information Department, Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the opportunity for increased bilateral trade, encouraging Malaysia to import more rice and mangoes from Pakistan, which is known for producing high-quality exports in these sectors. He also pointed out that Pakistan has recently removed the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for rice, making it more competitive for global markets, including Malaysia.



A key part of the discussions centered on the potential for exporting halal meat and gelatin to Malaysia. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to maintaining high halal standards, urging Malaysia to facilitate the accreditation process for Pakistani companies. The Malaysian side acknowledged the challenges faced by Pakistani businesses and expressed a commitment to simplifying export procedures.



The Malaysian Minister also invited Pakistan to engage with ASEAN activities as Malaysia assumes the chairmanship of the organization. Both sides expressed optimism about future collaborations and reaffirmed their commitment to creating a favorable environment for mutual trade and investment.
