Pakistan and Malaysia Aim to Strengthen Ties, Discuss ASEAN Engagement


Islamabad: In a pivotal meeting today at the Prime Minister’s House, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and his Malaysian counterpart, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, engaged in comprehensive discussions aimed at deepening bilateral relations and addressing common regional and international concerns.



According to Press Information Department, the talks were characterized by their depth and focus on achieving tangible outcomes. The two leaders explored a variety of issues pertinent to the Muslim Ummah and discussed strategies to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Prime Minister Sharif commended Prime Minister Ibrahim on Malaysia’s upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025 and its implications for the region.



The meeting underscored the historical and cooperative relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to a strengthened partnership. Prime Minister Ibrahim expressed his support for Pakistan’s continued engagement with ASEAN as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner and advocated for Pakistan’s enhanced role within the organization.



Furthermore, the leaders emphasized the importance of regular dialogue and exchanges of visits to foster bilateral relations. They highlighted the role of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), Bilateral Consultations, and other mechanisms as essential platforms for advancing cooperation and engagement at all levels.
