ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Japan have reached an agreement to enhance cooperation in the petroleum sector, focusing on geosciences and mineral research. The understanding was cemented during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Japanese Ambassador, Akamatsu Shuichi.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting outlined plans for strengthening collaboration in geosciences, laboratory procedures, and technical capacity building. Minister Malik highlighted the long-standing scientific cooperation between the two nations in these fields and noted the establishment of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratories with Japanese support, including from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, as a significant milestone in their bilateral partnership.

As part of its efforts, Pakistan is upgrading its mineral sector by adopting modern technologies over conventional methods. The Japanese Ambassador acknowledged Pakistan’s strides in enhancing its scientific infrastructure and reiterated Japan’s commitment to fostering technical cooperation and scientific exchanges in the realm of geosciences.
