Islamabad: A meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, focused on reinforcing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. Both leaders expressed a commitment to strengthening ties and increasing regional stability.

According to Press Information Department: Ambassador Moghaddam expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during challenging times and highlighted ongoing collaboration in the energy sector. He announced plans for a second transmission line and proposed expanding the current 100 MW electricity supply arrangement to meet future demands.

The Ambassador emphasized regional connectivity and announced that Pakistani energy institutions would be invited to the Pakistan-Iran Joint Commission session in Tehran. He also mentioned the potential for cooperation in agriculture and food products, while expressing satisfaction with the existing electricity payment mechanism.

Minister Leghari underscored the importance of Pakistan-Iran relations and discussed the impact of regional instability on global economies. He appreciated Iran’s uninterrupted electricity supply to Pakistan and expressed interest in learning from Iran’s power sector resilience. The Minister also highlighted the strategic importance of Gwadar, stressing the need for reliable electricity and investment in local power generation.

Both leaders discussed the potential for increased electricity imports from Iran and the importance of renewable energy investment. The Ambassador praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in peace talks and noted the expectation of bilateral trade reaching USD 4 billion by year-end. He emphasized the importance of routing Iran’s trade through Pakistani ports and enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to further strengthening cooperation in energy, trade, and connectivity, building on the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
