Islamabad: A high-level parliamentary delegation from the European Union met with Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan at the Parliament House, setting the stage for discussions on strengthening Pakistan-EU relations. The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest, such as bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and investment opportunities.

Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing ties with the European Union, particularly in trade, economy, and investment sectors. He highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and noted that the relationship is built on shared values, including democracy and international cooperation.

Mr. Khan pointed out that the EU is one of Pakistan’s major trading partners, with bilateral trade increasing under the GSP Plus scheme. He welcomed the upcoming EU-Pakistan Business Forum in May 2025, expressing hope for increased investment in IT, renewable energy, agribusiness, and textiles. He also mentioned national initiatives like the Special Investment Facilitation Council aimed at creating an investor-friendly environment.

He stated that Pakistan’s investment framework aligns with the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, offering promising opportunities for foreign investors in several sectors.

Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, present at the meeting, highlighted collaboration between Pakistan and the EU on various national challenges, focusing on youth development through higher education initiatives. Senator Rubina Qaimkhani noted EU-supported projects in Punjab and investment opportunities in Sindh. Senator Gurdeep Singh emphasized the constitutional rights and religious freedom enjoyed by religious minorities in Pakistan.

The EU delegation expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reiterated the desire to enhance cooperation with Pakistan. Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan urged EU member states to address human rights violations in Palestine and Kashmir, stressing the need for a just resolution for lasting peace.

The meeting included several key figures from the Senate and served as a platform to deepen bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership between Pakistan and the EU.
