Pakistan and Australia Strengthen Security and Sports Ties During High-Level Talks in Islamabad


Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins met today in Islamabad, where they discussed strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in security and sports. The discussions highlighted cooperative efforts in border management, counter-human trafficking, and sports diplomacy, notably cricket.



According to Press Information Department, the two officials agreed to enhance collaboration on border security and the fight against human trafficking. They also explored the idea of twinning Islamabad Capital Territory with Australian Capital Territory. Minister Naqvi announced that the Pakistan cricket team would tour Australia on October 30, which he said would foster goodwill and sportsmanship between the two nations. Additionally, Pakistani women cricketers will receive No Objection Certificates to participate in Australia’s Women Big Bash League.



The meeting also addressed technical cooperation, with Australia offering to support Pakistan with modern border management techniques and equipment. Plans were made to convene a session of the Joint Working Group in Australia this December. Minister Naqvi also noted ongoing efforts to facilitate the relocation of Afghan refugees to Australia, underscoring a commitment to humanitarian assistance.
