Pakistan Achieves Energy Self-Reliance Through Solar Power Expansion

Islamabad: Pakistan has emerged as a self-reliant country in the energy sector, attributed to the expansion of solar energy as a solution to the global energy crisis. This development comes amidst rising global oil and gas prices due to recent tensions, which have impacted economies worldwide.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s leadership adopted a strategic approach to resolve its energy crisis through the large-scale installation of solar panels. Over the past two to three years, the country has significantly expanded its solar energy capacity, with about 25 percent of electricity now being generated from solarization. This shift to renewable energy sources has enabled Pakistan to withstand the energy crisis impacting other countries in South Asia.

A report by CNN highlights that despite the global surge in energy prices, Pakistan has saved over $12 billion in energy imports since 2020 through the promotion of solar energy. By the end of this year, it is expected that an additional $6.3 billion could be saved. The growth of renewable energy is providing Pakistan with a foundation for energy self-reliance and economic stability.
