Islamabad: The 2nd Pak-China Symposium on Early Warning for Hydrological and Geological Disasters concluded at the NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad, emphasizing enhanced bilateral cooperation in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience. The two-day event included technical exchanges and high-level engagements aimed at addressing climate challenges through scientific innovation and regional collaboration.
According to Press Information Department, the symposium, which began on May 18, 2026, featured the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, as the Chief Guest. Experts from Pakistan and China participated in technical sessions focusing on hydrological and geological hazards, climate-induced disasters, and early warning systems. These sessions underscored the importance of science-driven policymaking and technological advancement in disaster management.
Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik HI(M) highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to global cooperation for disaster resilience, advocating for scientific and technological partnerships to shield vulnerable communities from climate-induced threats. He described the symposium as a significant platform for cooperation and proposed regular meetings of joint working groups to monitor technological integration in disaster management.
During the symposium, participants toured the National Emergencies Operation Center, receiving briefings on NDMA’s initiatives, including the Global Disaster Lens and NDMA’s Global Disaster App. A high-level panel discussion focused on experiences and joint responses to climate-related hazards in China and Pakistan.
The closing ceremony featured reaffirmations of continued Pak-China cooperation in disaster risk reduction, with closing remarks from key figures, including Executive Director NIDM Mr. M. Tanveer Piracha and Chairman NDMA Lt Gen. Inam Haider Malik HI(M). The event concluded with shield distribution and a networking session attended by delegates from academia, research institutions, government, and international partners.
