Karachi, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, has vocalized the grievances of the Kashmiri people following the revocation of Article 370 by the Indian government on August 5, 2019. He alleges that the action has led to a decline in the region’s autonomy and the welfare of its residents, countering the central government’s developmental promises.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah, during a party convention in Islamabad district, reminisced about the significant changes post-revocation, stating that the residents of Jammu and Kashmir have been stripped of their unique identity, constitutional rights, and economic opportunities. He underscored the unfulfilled pledges of progress, job creation, and anti-corruption measures promised by the Modi administration.
In his address, Abdullah questioned the improvements in sectors like employment, electricity, and development, which were anticipated to benefit from the special status alteration. He pointed out the particular struggles faced by various community segments, including the delayed financial dues affecting the local economy and police operations.
Highlighting the political dynamics, Abdullah accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of favoring those who align with their policies, creating a system of preferential treatment and neglecting the genuine needs of the Kashmiri populace.
