NIA Conducts Nationwide Searches, Arrests Suspect in Counterterrorism Sweep


Jammu: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India has conducted extensive searches at 26 locations across multiple states, including the contentious region of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the arrest of one individual and the questioning of several suspects.



According to Kashmir Media Service, the NIA’s operations spanned several states such as Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir. Sheikh Sultan Salah Uddin Ayubi, also known as Ayubi, was detained during these raids and is set to appear before the NIA special court at Patiala House in New Delhi.



The searches included significant actions in Baramulla district, where the home of Molvi Mohammad Iqbal Butt was searched, and documents were seized. Another raid in Tangmarg targeted the residence of Farooq Ahmad Wani, who is linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami organization. The operations also extended to regions like Goalpara in Assam, and cities in Maharashtra including Aurangabad, Jalna, and Malegaon, as well as Meerut and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.



The NIA has reported that these coordinated searches are part of a broader effort to clamp down on terrorist activities and networks within the country.
