Islamabad, Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf emphasized the critical importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and United Nations Security Council resolutions for lasting peace and stability in the region. His statements come on the eve of ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day,’ observed annually on February 5th.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Ashraf expressed unwavering solidarity with the Kashmiri people and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to diplomatically, politically, and morally support the Kashmiri struggle. He highlighted that the Kashmiri people have been resisting Indian control for over seven decades and enduring significant sacrifices in their quest for freedom. The Speaker condemned the atrocities committed by India in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and noted these acts would be remembered in history.
Furthermore, Ashraf called on the international community to take notice of the ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK and urged effective action to end them. He reiterated that a permanent solution to the Kashmir issue can only be achieved through a referendum in IIOJK as per the resolutions of the United Nations.
In addition to Kashmir, the Speaker voiced his concerns about the situation in Palestine, lamenting the loss of lives due to Israeli forces’ actions. He stated that the resolution of the Kashmir and Palestine issues is vital for establishing lasting peace in the world.
Speaker Ashraf concluded by asserting Pakistan’s role in seeking peaceful and sustainable solutions to conflicts worldwide and pledged to continue supporting the Kashmiri and Palestinian causes on international platforms.
