ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has highlighted the critical need for collective action to preserve the environment and address the challenges posed by climate change. In a statement marking World Environment Day, observed globally on June 5 under the United Nations, he underscored the threats posed by climate change, pollution, deforestation, and resource exploitation to human health, economic stability, and future generations.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sadiq emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about environmental protection and the sustainable use of resources. He pointed out Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change impacts despite its minimal contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. The speaker called for coordinated global strategies and international cooperation to combat environmental degradation.

Sadiq advocated for measures such as afforestation, prudent use of water and energy, reducing plastic consumption, and adopting environmentally responsible lifestyles. He reaffirmed Parliament’s proactive role in advancing legislation for environmental protection and sustainable development. Highlighting renewable energy, he noted that Pakistan’s Parliament is the first globally to be fully powered by solar energy.

The speaker also urged the youth to participate actively in environmental conservation efforts, emphasizing the link between a healthy environment and a prosperous future. Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah echoed these sentiments, calling environmental protection a national duty and stressing the importance of responsible resource use for a sustainable future.
