Islamabad: The National Assembly Secretariat and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ombudsperson Secretariat have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance women’s rights in Pakistan. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation, coordination, and information-sharing between the two bodies to improve women’s participation in the parliamentary system, safeguard inheritance rights, and ensure the implementation of protective legislation against workplace harassment.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in areas such as information sharing, capacity building, and technical cooperation. It emphasizes the commitment of both institutions to uphold their constitutional mandates while promoting women’s rights. Notably, the agreement will also strengthen ties with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus to boost public awareness and legislative enforcement related to women’s issues.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Saeed Ahmad, Acting Secretary of the National Assembly, and Barrister Rubab Mehdi, the Ombudsperson for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The signing ceremony was attended by Syed Shamoon Hashmi, Special Secretary for Special Initiatives at the National Assembly Secretariat, as well as senior officials from both institutions.
