NACTA Advances Counter-Terrorism Strategy with New Intelligence Center

Islamabad: The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) approved the creation of the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Center (NIFTAC) during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi. This development aims to enhance Pakistan’s counter-terrorism framework by improving intelligence coordination and threat analysis.

The fifth meeting of NACTA’s Board of Governors included key governmental figures such as Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and senior officials. Dr. Khalid Chauhan, NACTA’s National Coordinator, presented a briefing on the Authority’s performance and future initiatives, culminating in the decision to establish NIFTAC.

NIFTAC is designed as a specialized hub for intelligence coordination, developed after consultations with security stakeholders. Minister Naqvi emphasized its role in achieving NACTA’s strategic goals and announced plans for similar centers, called PIFTACs, in all provincial capitals to bolster regional intelligence efforts.

The establishment of NIFTAC is expected to significantly aid the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) and address emerging security challenges. Minister of State Talal Chaudhry highlighted the center’s potential to enhance NACTA’s operational capabilities and effectiveness in combating terrorism.

The meeting saw participation from Senators Manzoor Ahmed and Ponjo Mal Bheel, the Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, and Home Secretaries from all provinces. Inspector Generals of Police from various regions also attended. The Board of Governors unanimously approved all recommendations presented by Dr. Chauhan, signaling a strengthened internal security infrastructure for Pakistan.
