Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Industries and Production has called for an urgent security plan to counteract rampant theft at Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), following a meeting chaired by Syed Hafeezuddin, MNA. The committee highlighted the significant losses incurred due to theft of high-value state assets, such as copper wiring and essential industrial equipment, calling for immediate action from the Ministry of Industries and Production.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee instructed the ministry to devise a comprehensive security plan to mitigate ongoing losses and emphasized the importance of transparent investigations into security breaches. In addition to security concerns, the committee discussed strategic plans for the steel sector, with the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister proposing the establishment of a new steel mill to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on imported steel.
The Special Advisor also updated the committee on the progress of the National Auto Policy, noting that the draft policy has addressed all initial concerns and is set to be reviewed by the Prime Minister. A formal announcement of the policy framework is expected following the Prime Minister’s approval.
