Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination convened its 14th meeting to review the status of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and discuss sports development initiatives across the country. Under the acting chairmanship of Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, the committee emphasized the importance of grassroots talent identification and the need for strong coordination among federal and provincial stakeholders.

According to the National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee met in Islamabad and was briefed by the Director General of the Pakistan Football Federation. The briefing covered the current status of the PFF, its electoral process, and compliance with FIFA regulations. The committee was informed that elections were held in line with FIFA’s directions, leading to the formation of a new functional body. Amendments to the PFF’s constitution are required to align with international standards, and the newly elected body is expected to implement these changes. The focus on grassroots-level football development was highlighted as crucial for fostering new talent in the country.

Provincial Secretaries of Sports from various regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, presented their efforts in promoting sports, detailing initiatives, achievements, and Talent Hunt Programmes. They also discussed the allocation of funds for training, sports activities, and development programs. The committee stressed the importance of expanding talent identification to school, college, tehsil, district, and division levels, ensuring opportunities for athletes from remote areas.

The committee underscored the necessity of effective coordination between the PFF and provincial governments, urging for transparent use of resources and adequate funding for the sports sector. The meeting was attended by several members of the National Assembly, contributing to the discussions on enhancing sports development efforts across Pakistan.
