Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has cautioned that Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is facing an existential threat due to ongoing measures perceived as anti-Kashmiri. He called for unity among all communities in the region to counter these challenges.
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, during an event in Badgam, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq highlighted several actions contributing to this sense of threat. These include the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and statehood, its reconstitution as a Union Territory, and the confiscation of land, properties, and identity. He urged communities, including Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs, to unite against these measures.
Mirwaiz questioned the Indian government’s assertions of normalcy in the region, citing frequent lockdowns of the historic Jama Masjid and the banning of Shab-e-Barat prayers for six consecutive years, alongside his repeated house arrests.
Furthermore, he rejected any proposal for a separate homeland for Pandits, stressing the importance of Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims living together with dignity.
