Minister Pledges to Control Essential Commodity Prices


Islamabad: Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to controlling the prices of essential commodities and maintaining market stability. This pledge comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure affordability for consumers.



According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the minister chaired a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board in Islamabad to address the country’s sugar needs for the 2024-25 season. The meeting reviewed sugarcane crop estimates and outlined strategies for enhancing production and stabilizing prices.



Key decisions were made during the meeting to support the sustainable growth of the sugar industry. It was noted that sugar production had significantly increased in January 2025 compared to the previous month. The minister urged sugar millers to invest in research and development to further improve production capacity.



Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized the importance of providing fair compensation to farmers to encourage increased sugarcane cultivation. He also announced plans for strict action against hoarding, in collaboration with provincial governments, to prevent consumer difficulties.



The meeting was attended by relevant officials, sugar millers, and stakeholders, who contributed valuable suggestions for advancing sugarcane production and strengthening the industry.
