Srinagar, Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of utilizing Jammu and Kashmir as a “testing ground” for implementing repressive policies that could be extended throughout India. Her statement comes as a stark warning about the potential for broader authoritarian measures under the BJP’s rule.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti expressed these concerns at a meeting in New Delhi with political figures and activists from the INDIA bloc, emphasizing the recent detention of AAP leader Kejriwal and attacking the BJP’s critique of dynastic politics. She alleged that the electoral process is compromised, and the BJP’s tactics in Kashmir could signal a darker agenda for the entire country.
Highlighting her own experiences and those of other political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti pointed to the arbitrary detentions and charges faced by political figures in the region as indicative of the BJP’s governance style. She made a call for vigilance and action against these measures, stressing the necessity to protect constitutional rights and the democratic process in India.
