Mayor of Karachi Sets Completion Timelines for Development Projects

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has instructed officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to establish clear timelines for the completion of ongoing and forthcoming development projects in the city, aiming to ensure their timely completion for the benefit of citizens. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held at the KMC Head Office, where the Mayor reviewed the progress of various development schemes across Karachi.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Municipal Commissioner Karachi, Ibrar Jaffar, provided a comprehensive briefing to the Mayor on the physical and financial progress of development schemes. These schemes are being executed under different heads, including CLICK projects, Grant-in-Aid schemes, the Provincial Annual Development Program (ADP), and the District ADP.

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab noted that while development activities have increased across the city, the current pace of work needs further acceleration to meet public expectations. He emphasized that development schemes go beyond tendering processes and fund allocation, representing the commitment of government and municipal administration to deliver improved services to Karachi residents.

The Mayor instructed all Chief Engineers and relevant departments to expedite work on ongoing projects and ensure their swift completion, with completion reports due by May 30. He highlighted that over a hundred development schemes are underway, with 139 new road schemes planned, urging officials to finish current projects promptly to allow new ones to commence without delay.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab assured that there is no shortage of funds for development, with full support from the Sindh Government and Municipal Utility Charges and Taxes (MUCT) being used for infrastructure improvements. He reiterated the city administration’s commitment to fulfilling the development vision of the Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party and achieving tangible improvements for Karachi residents.

Financial Advisor KMC Gulzar Abro reported during the meeting that additional fund disbursements are expected soon, with releases proceeding without administrative delays. The meeting was attended by senior KMC officials, including Municipal Commissioner Karachi Ibrar Jaffar, Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro, and Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal.
