Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the historical significance of March 23, marking the day as a cornerstone in Pakistan’s formation, during a commemoration event at Mazar-e-Quaid. He highlighted the importance of freedom, drawing parallels with the struggles faced by Palestinians and Kashmiris, and underscored the enduring legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s leadership.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor, along with Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad and other dignitaries, laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum and offered prayers. This event saw the presence of key figures including Municipal Commissioner S.M Afzal Zaidi, PPP Deputy Parliamentary Leader in City Council Dil Muhammad, and various senior directors and officers, signaling a collective homage to the nation’s founder.

Mayor Wahab, in his interaction with the media, reminisced about the Lahore Resolution of 1940, which laid the groundwork for Pakistan’s independence. He praised the sacrifices and efforts of the nation’s forebears and affirmed the city’s commitment to realizing their vision. He also voiced concerns over the disrespect shown towards those who have sacrificed for the country’s security and stressed the significance of freedom, referring to the sacrifices made by the Pakistan People’s Party and the citizens of Karachi for the nation’s welfare.

Further highlighting the bilateral ties between Pakistan and China, Mayor Wahab appreciated the enduring relationship facilitated by former President Asif Ali Zardari, expressing optimism for its future strengthening under his guidance.

Addressing developmental challenges and initiatives in Karachi, the Mayor outlined the ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure, including transportation projects like the Karachi Circular Railway, and the city’s preparedness for major events, showcasing a proactive approach to governance and public service.
