Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated a series of development projects valued at Rs154 million in District East, focusing on road carpeting, sewerage improvements, water supply, and paver block installations in Kashmir Colony and Chanesar Town. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the projects are part of the Annual Development Program 2024-25 and aim to enhance infrastructure in the area.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, District President Iqbal Sand, Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, UC Chairman Hamid, and other elected representatives and party workers.
Mayor Wahab highlighted the completion of road carpeting in Union Councils 1 to 6 of District East, which forms a significant part of the Rs154 million project. Improvements to the sewerage system include the installation of a 12-inch diameter sewerage line spanning 3,160 RFT and a 15-inch diameter line covering 6,969 RFT. A new 225 mm diameter water line of 295 RFT has been laid to improve water supply, and paver block work covering 323,698 square feet has been completed.
The Mayor also noted the asphalt carpeting of 51,161 square feet of roads, stating that similar projects are underway in various Union Councils in District East to provide better infrastructure. He emphasized the ongoing development efforts in Karachi align with the Pakistan Peoples Party’s manifesto and commitments made by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Further development plans include a main road construction scheme with an estimated cost of Rs200 million, approved by Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani, and another scheme worth Rs210 million to enhance streets and sewerage lines in several areas, set to commence after Eid.
Efforts to improve the Baloch Colony Expressway and roads around Nursery were also mentioned, along with measures to address rainwater drainage issues on Korangi Road. The Mayor reiterated the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto promises and improving basic facilities for Karachi’s residents.
In a broader context, the Mayor addressed the impact of rising petroleum prices on the public and criticized the lack of transparency in development claims by other political parties. He called for a positive approach to politics, focusing on solving Karachi’s issues through collective efforts from all political parties.
Deputy Mayor Murad echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the Pakistan Peoples Party’s dedication to development and welfare in Karachi. He urged all stakeholders to collaborate for the city’s progress, highlighting Karachi’s status as Pakistan’s economic hub and the capital of Sindh.
