Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan approved several significant projects at a recent National Highway Authority (NHA) meeting, aiming to enhance Pakistan’s motorway infrastructure. The Lahore-Sialkot Motorway is set to expand from two lanes to three, and new routes will connect Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib directly to the motorway network. These developments are expected to improve travel efficiency and foster religious tourism.

According to Press Information Department, Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that future motorway projects would feature a minimum of three lanes on each side, ensuring a six-lane configuration. The meeting also addressed the acceleration of construction on other key routes, including the Sialkot-Kharian and Islamabad Motorway, and plans to expedite work on the Sialkot-Rawalpindi Motorway in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organization.

The establishment of new motorway links to religious sites aims to attract international visitors, particularly from the Sikh community. The government plans to develop hospitality infrastructure, including hotels and shopping malls, to accommodate this influx. To attract foreign investment, the NHA was directed to organize investment roadshows in several countries, showcasing the potential of Pakistan’s expanding motorway network.
