Kupwara Quadruplets Tragedy: Poor Medical Infrastructure Claims Three Lives

KUPWARA, A heart-breaking incident unfolded in Kupwara district where three newborns, part of a set of quadruplets, lost their lives in a local hospital, attributed to inadequate medical facilities.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, relatives of the deceased revealed to the press that the three babies were determined by doctors to be ‘underweight’, leading to their tragic demise between Sunday and Monday night. The siblings, comprising two boys and a girl, couldn’t survive, while another baby boy was urgently transferred to JVC Hospital Bemina in Srinagar for further medical attention.

The distraught family, hailing from Keran Kupwara situated approximately 8,000 feet above main Keran, bemoaned the lack of essential healthcare amenities and road infrastructure in their area. Expressing the challenges faced by the community due to these shortcomings, a family member pleaded with district authorities for enhanced medical provisions and improved road connectivity to reduce the hardships experienced by local residents.

It was highlighted that the mother, from Keran Kupwara, initially sought medical attention at PHC Keran during her labor. Due to complications, she was subsequently transferred to SDH Kupwara past midnight. It was at the latter facility where she gave birth to the quadruplets, which tragically resulted in the loss of three lives.
