Karachi: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), led by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, effectively managed the effects of heavy and intermittent rainfall across the city today, ensuring timely drainage and minimal disruption to daily life.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, despite the intensity of the rainfall, KMC had declared an emergency and high alert across all relevant departments. Proactive measures, such as continuous monitoring and cleaning of stormwater drains, deployment of field teams at key locations, and installation of dewatering pumps and heavy machinery at vulnerable points, were crucial in managing the situation.

Mayor Wahab personally oversaw the operations, visiting major areas including M.A. Jinnah Road, Shahrah-e-Liaquat, and Shahrah-e-Faisal. Although some complaints were reported, particularly from Shahrah-e-Faisal near Nursery, KMC teams responded swiftly with dewatering pumps and machinery, ensuring roads remained open for traffic. The overall situation within KMC’s jurisdiction remained under control.

The Mayor highlighted the coordinated efforts of KMC teams with Water Corporation officials, district administration, Town Municipal Corporation representatives, and law enforcement agencies. He urged citizens to cooperate with authorities, assuring them that all resources were being utilized to restore normalcy. Traffic flow largely returned to normal after 6:00 PM due to KMC’s efforts in draining rainwater from major roads and low-lying areas.

City Wardens and emergency response teams remained active, providing rescue and assistance activities and offering relief where required.
