Karachi: Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, denouncing India’s actions on 5 August 2019 as contrary to international law and United Nations resolutions. Murad’s remarks came during a rally organized by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to observe Kashmir Exploitation Day.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the event, held at the KMC Head Office, was attended by Municipal Commissioner Abrar Ahmed Jaffar, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, department heads, officers, employees, and a large number of citizens. Murad highlighted that India’s measures aimed at abolishing the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir have not changed its disputed status under international law. He called for a more effective international response to the human rights violations endured by the Kashmiri people and emphasized Karachi’s unwavering support for Kashmir.

Murad reiterated the need for global acknowledgment of the Kashmir issue, urging the United Nations and the international community to act decisively in resolving the dispute and ensuring peace. He acknowledged that Kashmir Exploitation Day serves to strengthen solidarity with Kashmir and to awaken global awareness of the human rights concerns in the region.

Municipal Commissioner Jaffer also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the day symbolizes support for Kashmir’s right to self-determination. He reiterated that the bond between Pakistan and Kashmir remains strong and unbreakable, and expressed concern over the daily discrimination faced by Muslims across India.
