Srinagar, Leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, part of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), have honored the memory of Muhammad Yusuf Baig, the father of Hurriyat leader Farida Behanji, on his 32nd martyrdom anniversary. Baig was martyred by the Indian Army during a raid at his residence in Srinagar, an event that has since been a rallying point for those advocating for Kashmir’s freedom.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident that led to Muhammad Yusuf Baig’s martyrdom occurred on November 23, 1992, when the Indian Army conducted a raid on his home, resulting in his death and the arrest of two youths associated with the freedom movement. This act of violence against Baig, a civilian, has been a source of enduring outrage among the Kashmiri populace and their supporters.
In her statement, Farida Behanji reflected on the sacrifices made by Kashmiris in their struggle for freedom, emphasizing that the bloodshed and sacrifices would not be in vain. She asserted a steadfast commitment to achieving freedom at any cost, underscoring the resolve that defines the current phase of the Kashmiri struggle.
Abdul Rasheed Lone, chief organizer of the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, also paid tribute to Baig, reiterating the unwavering determination of Kashmiris to persevere in their freedom movement until it reaches a successful conclusion. Lone highlighted the belief among the movement’s supporters that the sacrifices of martyrs like Baig would eventually lead to liberation from Indian dominion.
Other party leaders, including Prince Salim, Mirajuddin Zargar, and Manzoor Ahmed Dar, among others, joined in paying respects to Baig. They collectively voiced the sentiment that despite India’s attempts to suppress the freedom struggle through force, the spirit and morale of the Kashmiri people remain unbroken. The leaders expressed confidence in the continuity of the struggle and the eventual achievement of their goals.
