KARACHI: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, emphasized the city’s advancement towards modern development under the guidance of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab. He cited improvements across several sectors due to initiatives focused on transparency and sustainable planning.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi highlighted the collaboration between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, describing it as a historic move aimed at rectifying past mismanagement. This coordinated strategy, he stated, involves clear guidelines, advance planning, and third-party monitoring to foster a modern and resilient urban infrastructure.
Waqasi also pointed to public transport improvements, particularly the expansion of the Peoples Bus Service, as evidence of the PPP’s dedication to public service. He noted the introduction of new routes and facilities for women as part of a broader network expansion across Karachi and Sindh.
Addressing political tensions, Waqasi condemned attempts by MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar to politicize the Gul Plaza tragedy, calling such actions irresponsible. He maintained that these allegations against the Sindh government are unfounded and an effort to obscure political shortcomings.
He further criticized Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Muneem Zafar Khan for creating a gap between claims and reality, suggesting that the exaggeration of minor measures misleads the public. Reaffirming the PPP’s commitment, Waqasi stated that efforts are ongoing to transform Karachi into a developed city, despite existing challenges. He concluded by contrasting Jamaat-e-Islami’s focus on criticism with the PPP’s dedication to public service.
