Karachi Mayor Unveils Rs 2 Billion Development Plans Including Key Flyover


Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a series of development initiatives amounting to Rs 2 billion, including the construction of the Azeempura Flyover. The projects aim to enhance the city’s infrastructure, with a total expenditure of Rs 70 to 75 billion planned for this year. Additionally, collaborations with various institutions are expected to contribute approximately Rs 100 billion in development works across Karachi.



According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the groundbreaking for several projects in Shah Faisal Colony, District Korangi, has commenced. These include the Azeempura Flyover, which will link Shahrah-e-Bhutto to the Airport Corridor, and the improvement of key roads such as Liaquat Road, Mehran Depot Road, and Hashim Raza Road. The Azeempura Flyover project, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,477 million, aims to ease traffic congestion and enhance road infrastructure.



Present at the event were Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, parliamentary leaders, and other city officials. The projects are part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and infrastructure in Karachi. The Azeempura Flyover, expected to be completed within 100 days, will include road rehabilitation, drainage, and electrification from Malir River Bridge to Shama Shopping Center.



The Mayor emphasized the importance of the Azeempura intersection for commuters and highlighted the inclusion of a drainage system and street lighting in the project. He also announced additional road rehabilitation projects worth Rs 205.660 million, targeting areas in Malir, and the initiation of development work on Jamia Millia Road.



Further initiatives include the reconstruction of 26 roads city-wide and the recent inauguration of the Bhains Colony Export Processing Zone Flyover. The Mayor assured the public of continued efforts to address local issues, despite limited resources. Moreover, he acknowledged the role of women in Pakistan’s development, coinciding with International Women’s Day, and reiterated the commitment of the Pakistan Peoples Party to empower women through effective measures.
