Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab recently visited several ongoing development projects in Central District, including the Karimabad Underpass, Lal Qila Park in Azizabad, and the water supply and drainage system in Sobanagar Federal B Area. The mayor emphasized the urgency of completing these projects to alleviate citizens’ difficulties and improve the standard of living in the affected areas.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor, accompanied by key officials such as Director General of Karachi Development Authority Shujaat Hussain and Mayor Karachi’s Special Representative for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, made detailed inspections of the projects. He stressed on accelerating the pace of ongoing development projects to ensure their completion at the earliest.
During his visit to the Karimabad Underpass, Mayor Wahab noted the significant traffic congestion the project aims to alleviate. The underpass, intended to create a signal-free route from Memon Foundation to Ziauddin Hospital, is seen as crucial for easing travel in this densely populated area. The mayor instructed that all obstacles to the construction process be removed promptly.
At Lal Qila Park, the reconstruction project aims to provide upgraded recreational facilities including toilets, indoor games, a gym, and selfie points, spread over one and a half acres. Mayor Wahab highlighted the importance of quality and consideration for the needs of all citizens, particularly women and children, in the construction of the park.
In Sobanagar, Mayor Wahab reviewed the progress of the restoration project for the area’s water supply and drainage system, where over 70% of the work has already been completed. The project, expected to be finished by December, involves laying new lines for sewage and water supply systems to solve long-standing issues for residents.
Mayor Wahab also referred to the successful completion of Iqbal Park in Block 14, Gulberg Town, under the Karachi Mega Project, which includes extensive recreational facilities. He affirmed the commitment to continue developing additional park projects in the Central District to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
