Karachi Intensifies Security Measures for Chinese Nationals Amidst Ongoing Projects

Karachi, In a significant security briefing led by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, comprehensive strategies were reviewed to bolster the safety of Chinese nationals residing and working in Karachi, especially those associated with various governmental and multinational projects. The meeting, which convened key police officials including Additional IG Karachi and several DIGs, took place at the Central Police Office Karachi.

According to Sindh Police, IG Memon directed the Special Protection Unit (SPU) to ensure complete and foolproof security for the Chinese community in the city, reflecting an increased focus on safeguarding foreign nationals involved in critical economic partnerships. The district police were tasked with the security clearance and regular monitoring of residential areas where Chinese expatriates reside.

During the meeting, DIG of the Special Protection Unit detailed the existing security protocols and proposed enhancements to ensure the safety of these vital community members. It was emphasized that both the SPU and district police need to work in close coordination to manage and mitigate potential security risks.

IG Memon ordered the formation of a four-member committee, including the DIG Establishment, DIG SPU, and DIG Special Branch, to conduct a thorough re-audit of the living and working premises of Chinese residents. This committee is expected to assess the movement of these individuals within residential areas and review overall security measures currently in place, with the aim of implementing additional safeguards as needed.

The directive highlights the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of foreign nationals, which is crucial for maintaining and enhancing international economic relations and investor confidence in Sindh.
