Karachi Initiates Comprehensive Street Lighting Overhaul Under Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s Directive

Karachi: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced a significant enhancement of the city’s infrastructure with the initiation of a widespread project to fix and light street lamps across all seven districts of Karachi. The effort includes maintaining lights on 106 roads and mitigating issues caused by load shedding from K Electric.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab has mandated a zero-tolerance policy regarding the quality of infrastructure work, especially concerning roads and street lighting. The engineering department has been tasked to ensure that street lights are continuously operational and to implement measures that prevent disruptions during power cuts. This includes shifting to alternative power solutions where necessary.

The Mayor outlined that street lights on major thoroughfares such as Shahrah Ghalib, Marine Drive, and MA Jinnah Road, among others, have been fully restored. Plans are underway to extend these improvements to other critical areas including Shahrah Liaquat and Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, progressing in phases.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the broader implications of the lighting project, noting that enhanced street lighting will contribute to reducing street crime and improving traffic flow. He also disclosed successful trials of solar-powered lights at Kidney Hill Park and revealed plans to expand this initiative to 45 major parks across Karachi to ensure sustainable and independent energy solutions for municipal facilities.
