Karachi Implements Reforms in Livestock Management

Karachi: In a significant move to enhance the efficiency and transparency of livestock farms, Advisor to the Chief Minister Sindh for Livestock and Fisheries, Syed Najmi Alam, presided over a crucial meeting to review and improve the operations of the Livestock Department’s farms. The meeting focused on implementing robust measures to ensure optimal use of public funds and improve the conditions of livestock management in the region.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, during the meeting, comprehensive briefings on the performance of various livestock farms were presented to Syed Najmi Alam. The advisor stressed the importance of transparency in the use of public funds and called for substantial improvements in farm management practices to protect government assets and enhance the farms’ productivity.

Syed Najmi Alam mandated the installation of online cameras on each farm to maintain strict surveillance and ensure the well-being of the animals. He emphasized the necessity of animal tagging and the continuous presence of a veterinary doctor on each farm to maintain health records, administer vaccinations, and treat illnesses effectively.

The advisor also directed that farm superintendents should reside on the premises to oversee operations directly. In cases where accommodations are lacking, arrangements will be made to build hostel facilities, utilizing funds from a World Bank project aimed at renovating farm buildings and enhancing infrastructure.

Moreover, Najmi Alam called for an increase in fodder crop cultivation to utilize farm lands more efficiently and requested farm superintendents to provide detailed reports on their land holdings. This measure aims to retrieve full details and documents from the revenue department to address issues of land occupation and ensure that farm lands are utilized optimally.

The meeting was attended by key department officials including Secretary Livestock Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, Additional Secretary Technical Livestock Dr. Ali Akhtar Shahani, and other prominent veterinary and planning experts. This gathering underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to revamping agricultural and livestock management practices in the province.
