Karachi, The general meeting of the council of Baldia Uzma Karachi is set to be held today, December 7, 2023, at three o’clock in the afternoon in the council hall of the KMC Building on MA Jinnah Road. The meeting, to be presided over by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, will focus on various significant issues facing the city.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the council meeting is expected to discuss key problems including water, sewage, gas, and electricity shortages in Karachi. Mayor Wahab has expressed a desire to work collaboratively with all political parties and the council to address these fundamental issues. The Mayor, in a recent press conference, stressed the importance of respectful dialogue and practical solutions over mere protests.
In the meeting, a resolution is likely to be passed concerning the non-supply of gas during the colder weather. Additionally, there will be discussions on expediting the construction of the Red Line on University Road and the Green Line on MA Jinnah Road, with an appeal for the federal government to accelerate the pace of these projects.
Mayor Wahab also mentioned the authority of KMC to appoint its own property inspector in each town of Karachi, a resolution that has been approved by the city council. The meeting will also see discussions on showing solidarity with Palestine by naming the Gulistan Johar underpass after them.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among all parties for the welfare of Karachi. He also addressed the need to learn from past mistakes, such as ‘china cutting’ on drains and parks, and the importance of accountability. Mayor Wahab expressed confidence in the People’s Party, citing its past performance and anticipating success in the upcoming elections.
