Karachi: Deputy Mayor of Karachi, Salman Abdullah Murad, announced the end of load shedding in Gulshan Hadid Extension, attributing the success to the collaborative efforts between Karachi Electric (K Electric) and the local community. The announcement was made during a reception that also addressed the broader challenges of power supply and utility management in the city.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Deputy Mayor Murad praised K Electric for their efforts and emphasized the need for continued cooperation between K Electric and the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to address not only load shedding but also issues of excess billing and other public concerns. He urged K Electric to promptly address the problem of additional billing and to extend their efforts to end load shedding in other districts and rural areas of Karachi.
The reception was attended by various officials including PPP General Secretary Imdad Ali Jokhio, Chairman of Ibrahim Hydari Town Nazir Bhutto, and several K Electric executives such as Regional Head Faisal Khan, Crystal Head Abdul Latif Mehsar, and others. During his speech, Murad expressed commitment to the residents of Gulshan Hadid Extension, promising that the area will soon be included in new development projects.
Further addressing utility issues, Murad called on the steel mill authorities to cease their “bullying,” end the gas shutdown in Steel Town, and resolve the water supply issues in Gulshan Hadid. He highlighted the efforts of the PPP in resolving these issues and threatened collective action against the steel mill authorities if they fail to address the water concerns.
Regional Head of K Electric, Faisal Khan, shared insights into the utility’s operations, noting that 70% of Karachi areas do not experience load shedding due to better billing quality and the absence of electricity theft. He credited the end of load shedding in Gulshan Hadid Extension to the cooperation from its residents in preventing overbilling and improving service quality. Khan also mentioned ongoing improvements in the rural areas of Karachi and called for public cooperation.
The event concluded with the residents of Gulshan Hadid Extension presenting gifts to K Electric authorities as a token of appreciation for their efforts in ending load shedding in the area.
