Islamabad, In a formal ceremony held at the Supreme Court today, Mr. Justice Munib Akhtar was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The oath was administered by Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi in the presence of fellow judges, legal representatives, and court staff.
According to Press Information Department, Justice Akhtar will serve in this interim role while Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa is abroad. The event was attended by members of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as well as representatives from the Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association. Ms. Jazeela Aslam, Registrar of the Supreme Court, oversaw the proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony, which was described as both simple and dignified.
Justice Akhtar’s temporary appointment is part of standard judicial procedure to ensure the continuity of leadership within Pakistan’s highest court during the absence of the Chief Justice. The presence of significant judicial and legal figures at the ceremony underscores the importance of this transitional period in maintaining the stability and functionality of the nation’s judiciary.
