Judicial Commission of Pakistan Approves Transfers of Islamabad High Court Judges

Islamabad: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan convened at the Supreme Court to deliberate on the transfer of judges from the Islamabad High Court to other provincial high courts, in accordance with Article 200 of the Constitution. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, who serves as the Commission’s Chairman.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting was called by the Secretary of the Judicial Commission after the Chief Justice declined to convene it on a requisition by one-third of the Commission members. The Chief Justices of the concerned high courts participated in the decision-making process for each proposed transfer.

The Commission approved the transfer of Mr. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani to the Lahore High Court, Mr. Justice Babar Sattar to the Peshawar High Court, and Ms. Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz to the High Court of Sindh. Proposals for the transfer of Mr. Justice Arbab M. Tahir to the High Court of Balochistan and Mr. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro to the High Court of Sindh were withdrawn.

The Commission also resolved, by majority, that any vacancies resulting from these transfers would be filled through further transfers rather than initial appointments.
