Islamabad: Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has instructed the Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company to enhance value addition, adopt modern processing technologies, and implement export-oriented strategies to bolster the country’s horticulture sector.
According to Radio Pakistan, during a meeting held in Islamabad, Jam Kamal Khan praised the successful fruit bagging initiative by the Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company. He referred to the project as a transformative step that has markedly improved the quality, appearance, and international competitiveness of Pakistani fruits. The minister urged the expansion of this initiative beyond its current focus on mangoes, bananas, and guavas to include other commercially significant crops, notably dates, as well as grapes and peaches.
Jam Kamal Khan further instructed officials to collaborate with Pakistan’s paper manufacturing industry, private-sector stakeholders, and provincial governments to investigate the local production of fruit bagging materials. This move is aimed at supporting and advancing the country’s horticulture export agenda.
