Islamophobia: JNU to ‘research’ on Muslim threats in Indian sub-continent

New Delhi, July 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):In India, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is about to work on a research project titled”Salafi-Jihadist Threats in the Indian Sub-Continent: Current and Future Challenges in India’s Policy Making”. The research is a part of the right-wing propaganda to fuel anti-Muslim hatred and ensure electoral gains for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

There has been a rise in right-wing influence in JNU since the appointment of M Jagadesh Kumar as the vice-chancellor of the varsity. Kumar is close to Hindutva elements and is suppressing the dissent on the JNU campus. Hindutva terrorists have long been indulging in lynching, looting and rioting against minorities particularly Muslims. Such activities have caused great damage to the idea of inclusive India. But astonishingly, JNU is not interested in working on such incidents rather it is keen to invent a Muslim angle just to cover up the atrocities committed by Hindutva elements.

The project is funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), a body headed by the BJP-led Indian central government. The varsity has sought applications for the post of Research Assistant, who will be required to work on the aforementioned project. The selected candidate will be given a salary of Rs 20,000, according to a notification published on the JNU website. There is a high concern among the civil society on the rise of right-wing influence the in JNU camps.
