Islamabad Police Implements Comprehensive Security Measures for Muharram Processions

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police successfully implemented extensive security arrangements to ensure peace and public safety during Muharram-ul-Haram, facilitating a peaceful environment for religious activities and processions across the federal capital.

According to Islamabad Capital Police, the security plan was initiated well in advance of Muharram, with over 27 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) being fully implemented. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi highlighted that the preparations included meetings with organizers, training of volunteers, route inspections, and security clearances. The efforts resulted in the organized and secure conduct of the 9th Muharram central procession and other related activities.

The IGP further emphasized that sensitive areas within the capital underwent thorough security audits and clearance operations over the past 45 days, involving multiple high-level meetings. Engagement with scholars from various schools of thought and peace committees was prioritized to promote religious harmony and inter-sectarian coordination throughout the period.

During the first ten days of Muharram, special security measures were implemented for 740 majalis and 117 processions, with a specialized plan for 21 processions on the 9th of Muharram. Advanced technology, including artificial intelligence and a network of over 2,700 surveillance cameras, was utilized for real-time monitoring from the Safe City Islamabad control center.

The security deployment for Muharram included over 16,000 officers and personnel, with more than 6,500 dedicated specifically to the central procession on the 9th. The coordinated efforts of Islamabad Police, Rangers, and Pakistan Army were structured using a modern Five-Tier security system, employing specialized barricading and advanced security measures.

Specialized units such as SWAT commandos and patrolling teams, along with effective inter-unit coordination and continuous monitoring, ensured a secure environment without any gaps. The directives of Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi guided the integration and modernization of the security arrangements.

IGP Rizvi commended the collective efforts of the police, Rangers, Army, district administration, peace committees, and the citizens of Islamabad, which ensured exemplary peace and order during the Muharram processions.
