ISLAMABAD: In a substantial effort to curb illicit activities, the Islamabad Police have successfully arrested 2,924 individuals in a wide-reaching crackdown on criminal elements over the first four months of 2026. This initiative has led to the apprehension of numerous offenders involved in illegal arms possession and drug trafficking.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the operation focused on reducing crime rates and enhancing public safety. Among those detained were 1,668 proclaimed offenders with prior criminal records. The crackdown also targeted individuals engaged in illegal possession of weapons and drug dealing, resulting in the arrest of 1,256 suspects. Law enforcement officials seized significant quantities of narcotics during the operation, including 94 kilograms of hashish, over 64 kilograms of heroin, 52 kilograms of crystal meth, and 2,342 bottles of liquor.
The police efforts further resulted in the arrest of 718 individuals for illegal arms possession. Confiscated weapons included 608 pistols of various calibers, 47 rifles and guns, 34 Kalashnikovs, 57 daggers, along with a substantial amount of ammunition.
DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq emphasized the police department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining public order by continuing operations against criminal elements, land grabbers, and drug traffickers. He reiterated the zero-tolerance policy towards crime and encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to local authorities or the emergency helpline “Pukar-15” to aid in ensuring community safety.
