Islamabad: Crime in Islamabad has significantly decreased in 2026, with a 61% reduction in overall crime and a 39% decrease in heinous crime during the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2025. According to Islamabad Capital Police, this decline is attributed to intelligence-led operations, continuous policing measures, and an expanded Safe City surveillance network that now covers almost the entire city.

The statistics were discussed at a high-level crime meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, with the participation of senior police officers. The meeting reviewed various aspects, including the overall law and order situation, crime prevention strategies, investigation performance, and the effectiveness of the Safe City surveillance system. It also covered intelligence-based policing, emergency response, and operations targeting organized gangs, proclaimed offenders, illegal weapon holders, and drug traffickers.

IGP Rizvi attributed the crime reduction to a consistent strategy focused on prevention, patrolling, and pursuit. The approach involves preventive policing, intelligence-driven raids, extensive patrolling, and the Safe City network, which together facilitate faster detection and quicker arrests. The Investigation Wing has maintained a strong record in tracing suspects and solving major cases through merit-based, scientifically supported investigations.

IGP Rizvi emphasized the professionalism and dedication of the Islamabad Police in achieving this reduction and pledged to enhance preventive policing, expand intelligence-led operations, and improve the Safe City system. He stressed the importance of investigating major cases on merit and building strong, evidence-based cases to secure convictions in court. Protecting citizens, enforcing the law impartially, delivering timely justice, and maintaining Islamabad as one of Pakistan’s safest cities remain top priorities for the police.
