Islamabad: Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, leading a high-level delegation, visited Pakistan’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) in Islamabad to explore avenues for cooperation in disaster risk management. The visit reflects Iran’s interest in leveraging Pakistan’s advanced early warning systems and disaster preparedness expertise to bolster regional disaster response capabilities.

According to Radio Pakistan, during the visit, Iranian officials were briefed on the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) modern disaster management system and its operational capabilities. The delegation, accompanied by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, was welcomed by NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik. The discussions highlighted the effective use of national resources and the disaster and climate-related risks facing Pakistan and its neighbors.

Momeni commended Pakistan for its progress in disaster preparedness and expressed Iran’s intent to benefit from Pakistan’s institutional coordination and advanced technologies. He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and sharing expertise between the two nations to strengthen regional disaster response. The Iranian Interior Minister underscored Iran’s commitment to expanding institutional cooperation with Pakistan to tackle natural disasters and climate change challenges.
