Interior Minister Meets Italian Ambassador to Strengthen Anti-Trafficking Cooperation

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met with Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Mirelena Armlini on July 4, 2024, to discuss bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest, focusing on combating human trafficking and enhancing cooperation in various sectors.

According to Press Information Department, Naqvi described his recent visit to Italy as successful and productive, highlighting an agreement with his Italian counterpart to collaborate on combating human trafficking. A delegation from Italy’s Ministry of Interior is expected to visit Pakistan soon to meet with local authorities and inspect border areas.

Naqvi emphasized the need for stronger mutual cooperation to prevent drug trafficking and human smuggling, stating that no compromise will be made on human smuggling. He stressed that curbing human smuggling at the borders would benefit both countries. Naqvi also highlighted the importance of legal migration of skilled labor, noting that Italy could benefit from Pakistani human resources in various fields.

During the meeting, Naqvi extended a formal invitation to the Italian Interior Minister to visit Pakistan. The Italian Ambassador expressed gratitude for the cooperation in multiple areas.

The meeting was also attended by Commandant FC Moazzam Jah Ansari, IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, and senior officials from the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs.
