Interim CM Suspends Key Officials during Malir, Korangi Districts Surprise Visit

KARACHI, In an unexpected move, Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (rtd) Maqbool Baqar suspended the Director of School Education, Chief Monitoring Officer (CMO) Education for Malir, and Tapedar of Malir. This decision came during his unannounced visits to district Malir and Korangi, where he observed dereliction of duties and other administrative issues. The Chief Minister expressed concerns over the failure to enhance the educational atmosphere and criticized the absence of necessary inspections aimed at resolving public matters.

According to Media Consultant to CM Sindh, during his visit, the CM uncovered numerous administrative shortcomings. He found that multiple sub-registrar offices in District Malir had been operating without electricity for over a year, relying on generators. These offices were in a state of neglect, with noticeable filth and heaps of dust. Consequently, Commissioner Karachi Saleem Rajput received orders to restore the electricity in these offices.

In his inspection of various schools and colleges, Justice Baqar was dismayed by the lack of basic amenities and proper care. At the NA Abbasi Government Boys Secondary School in Landhi, District Malir, only 42 out of 252 enrolled students were present, and school infrastructure, including furniture and computer labs, was lacking or mismanaged. Upon further inquiry, it was revealed that key educational officers had not conducted the mandated inspections, leading to the suspension of the Director of School Education and Chief Monitoring Officers.

The Chief Minister’s visit to the Girls College in Landhi unveiled more challenges. Despite a large enrollment of 570 students, only 13 were enrolled in the Pre-engineering program. The principal attributed this to a lack of interest in engineering among girls and a longstanding vacancy for a Maths lecturer position.

Justice Baqar’s tour extended to the Landhi Police Station in District Korangi, where he found the wireless system non-functional. The state of Punjab Cricket Stadium was also lamented, as it had been repurposed into a weekly market and dumping ground.

While inspecting the Shah Faisal Colony No.1 Nullah, he discovered it was completely clogged. Residents informed him that, though under the jurisdiction of KMC, the Nullah had never been maintained. Immediate orders for its cleanup were issued to the Municipal Commissioner KMC.

The CM’s final stops included witnessing roadside encroachments in Shah Faisal Colony and observing the misuse of the Azeempura graveyard as a dumping ground. He provided firm directives for rectifications in both cases.

Concluding his inspection, Chief Minister Baqar instructed various municipal, education, and police officers to conduct thorough reviews of their respective departments and to maintain proper records. He stressed the importance of not just maintaining offices but also ensuring records of inspections are up-to-date and transparent.
