India’s Actions in Kashmir Violate International Law, Says Hurriyat Conference

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has asserted that the Kashmir dispute remains an international issue, as recognized by United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas emphasized that India’s actions on August 5, 2019, which revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, violate these resolutions. Minhas stated that New Delhi’s efforts cannot change the territory’s status as a disputed region.

The APHC spokesman criticized India’s portrayal of Kashmir as an internal matter, calling it an attempt to avoid accountability. He urged the international community to recognize these actions as violations of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention. He also expressed concern over the UN’s inaction, which he believes emboldens these policies.

Minhas called on the global community to pressure India to cease its actions and uphold UN resolutions guaranteeing Kashmiris the right to self-determination.

The statement also highlighted the condition of political prisoners, including Hurriyat leaders, who are allegedly in poor health due to their detention. Minhas praised their resilience and criticized the treatment of these prisoners as a violation of the Declaration of Human Rights Charter of 1948.
