Srinagar, Indian forces launched a massive search operation in the Bandipora district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), targeting civilian populations in the surrounding forest areas.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the operation involves Indian troops, paramilitary forces, and police, resulting in harassment and torture of local residents.
The search operation began after unknown assailants attacked troops in the Renji forest area of Aragam in Bandipora district. In response, Indian forces cordoned off the area and commenced an intensive search operation, which continued as of the filing of this report. The police mentioned on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) that the search operation followed the attack by unknown men on the troops.
The massive search effort has seen helicopters deployed, and additional forces have been dispatched to the area, indicating the seriousness of the operation. Residents living in the forest areas have reported harassment and mistreatment by Indian forces, creating a climate of fear and insecurity among the civilian population.
The ongoing operation in Bandipora has drawn concern over the heavy-handed tactics used by Indian forces in IIOJK, raising questions about the impact on civilian lives and the potential for human rights violations. Further developments are expected as the search operation continues.
