Melbourne: The Indian consulate in Melbourne has once again become the target of vandalism, with fresh graffiti discovered on the main entrance of the diplomatic mission. The incident adds to a series of similar acts against the consulate.
According to Kashmir Media Service, unidentified individuals defaced the Consulate General of India, situated at 344 St Kilda Road, sometime between Wednesday and Thursday. Victoria Police confirmed the event, noting that an investigation is underway, though no suspects have been identified.
The Australia Today highlighted that this is not the first instance of such acts, with previous incidents involving anti-India slogans and graffiti against the consulate.
In response, the Indian High Commission posted on X, stating that the issue has been raised with Australian authorities. The statement emphasized that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of Indian diplomatic and consular premises in the country.
An Indian-Australian community member expressed concern over the incident, suggesting that it extends beyond simple vandalism. “These repeated attacks on cultural and diplomatic spaces are deeply distressing,” the individual noted.
