Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem visited the Lahore Press Club, where he participated in the “Meet the Press” programme. Accompanied by senior police officials, IG Punjab engaged with crime reporters, emphasizing their significant role in crime combat, social reform, and ensuring accountability.

According to Punjab Police, Abdul Kareem highlighted the integration of modern technology, including body cameras and automated systems, to enhance policing efforts across Punjab’s 800 police stations. He underscored the cooperation between crime reporters and the police as a catalyst for reform and balance within the policing system. Under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the police are implementing various reforms, including Safe Cities cameras and virtual centers for women and child safety, to improve service delivery.

IG Punjab stated that departmental proceedings have been initiated against corruption and misconduct across all levels within the police force. He assured zero tolerance for complaints related to corruption or misuse of authority. Additionally, he noted the decline in heinous crimes and the improvements in the traffic system. Efforts to combat sexual crimes involving children and women are being prioritized, with immediate actions being taken against offenders.

Abdul Kareem revealed that Rs. 12 billion has been allocated for body cameras, with the first consignment of 1,000 cameras already received. This initiative aims to address corruption complaints at police checkpoints. Further measures include restoring peace in Katcha areas and introducing legislation against illegal weapons. During the event, the President of the Lahore Press Club, Arshad Ansari, presented a shield to IG Punjab, who reciprocated with souvenirs for the club’s office-bearers.
